Piper superintendent to speak at Annual Meeting
Dr. Jessica Dain, the superintendent of the Piper School District, will be the keynote speaker at the 36th Annual Meeting of Business West. Dr. Dain, who came to Piper in July of 2020, has more than 27 years of experience in education as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, district director and assistant superintendent. She has served area school districts including DeSoto, Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley and Olathe before coming to Piper. Dr. Dain received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Emporia State University and a doctorate from St. Louis University. She and her husband, Dr. Todd Dain, are the parents of three children.
The Annual Meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Rowe Ridge Vineyard and Winery, 11255 Leavenworth Rd. The cost of the meeting, which will include dinner, will be $30 a person. Business West seeks Executive Director
Business West is seeking an Executive Director. Murrel Bland, the current Executive Director, is retiring. A job description is attached.
Restaurant chain to come to Legends Outlet
Whataburger is coming to the Legends Outlet. It will take the 3,700 square feet that was occupied by Logan’s Road House. Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, is one of the investors that owns the chain in Kansas City Area. Another restaurant, the Jousting Pigs, based in Liberty, will take over the former Arthur Bryant Barbecue location; the new owner will spend $750,000 in remodeling the location that has 7,000 square feet of floor space.
Networking group to meet

Members always welcome
Business West members are always welcome to attend monthly Board of Directors’ meetings. The Board meets at 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Board Room at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy in the Arrowhead Center. Persons wishing to eat lunch should arrive at noon and order off the menu.
