County Administrator to speak at Business West Membership Meeting

Doug Bach, the County Administrator for Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County, will be the featured speaker at the summer quarterly membership meeting of Business West at noon Wednesday, June 28 at the Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy. Dairy Farmers of America move into new building

The Dairy Farmers of America recently moved from Kansas City, Mo., to its new headquarters at 1405 N. 98th St. The milk marketing cooperative and dairy food processor held an open house at its $34 million building June 7.  DFA has the largest private-sector payroll in Greater Kansas City with annual revenue of more than $18 billion. The three-story building has 110,000 square feet of floor space and is certified as a leader in energy and environmental design. DFA is owned by its 13,000 members who represent some 8,000 farms in 48 states.

Legends to add community area

Legends Outlet recently announced it soon will add a park-like space that will be called “The Lawn.” The area will have tables and chairs and will be on the south side of the smokestack. It will feature a jumbo light emitting diode (LED) screen. The Legends also has announced that Cavender’s will relocate in July to a new space in the center that will have 16,300 square feet of floor space. The western-wear retail chain has been at the Legends since the center opened in 2006.

Special use permit approved

The Unified Commission recently approved a special-use permit and plan permit for Frontier Justice Retail Center at 1700 N. 100th Ter. The building will have 33,382 square feet of floor space and include an indoor shooting range. Brin Brown, who with her husband Mike Brown, own the business, has explained that Frontier Justice will fill the mid-market demand between a large chain retailer and the small neighborhood gun shop. The Browns also have a similar location in Lee’s Summit.

Presentation to concern local government issues

Mike Taylor, the public relations director for the Unified Government, will speak at a Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas meeting, at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3333 Wood Ave. Taylor is also the U.G. lobbyist at the Kansas Legislature.

All Business West members are always welcome to attend monthly Business West Board meetings. The Board meets at 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Board Room at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy., in the Arrowhead Center.
