Business West members to learn of Chamber, BPU
David Mehlhaff, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kansas City,
Kansas, Area Chamber of Commerce, will be the featured speaker at the monthly
meeting of Business West at noon Wednesday, May 17 in the Board Room of The Dotte
Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy., in the Arrowhead Center. Mehlhaff is also Chief
Communications Officer of the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities. His presentation
will concern the Chamber and the BPU. Those attending may order from the menu.

Shepherd’s Center to offer program
The Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its monthly Adventures
in Learning program starting at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19 at Grace Lutheran/Mason
Memorial Church at 3333 Wood Avenue. Lynn Williams and Kim Wetzel-Williams, K-
State Extension Master Gardeners, will speak about container gardening.

Restaurant honors teachers
The Whataburger restaurant chain, including the one in Village West, recently
honored teachers by donating a free breakfast item. Teachers could choose from one of
three items— a taquito with cheese, breakfast on a bun or a honey butter chicken
biscuit. This was National Teacher Appreciation Week.

BPU celebrates Drinking Water Week
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities, along with utilities across North
America, recently celebrated Drinking Water Week. The educational effort recognized
the vital role that tap water plays. BPU serves 53,000 water customers, including 4,200
businesses.
