Learn about cyber security
Jason Vaughn, a detective who specializes in cyber security for the Kansas City, Kansas,
Police Department, will be the featured speaker at the Business West Membership Meeting
Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the Board Room of The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Parkway in
the Arrowhead Center. Persons who want to eat should come at noon to order off the menu. The
program will start at 12:30 p.m.
Business West elects officers, directors
Officer and directors were elected for the coming year for Business West at the organization’s
Annual Meeting Oct. 19. They are: Kim Singleton, President; Michelle Hereford, President-Elect; Pam
Rowe, Immediate Past-President; Murrel Bland, Recording Secretary; and Dr. Jane Winkler
Philbrook, Interim Treasurer.
Board of Directors who will serve two year terms include: Jim Echols, Dr. Jane Winkler
Philbrook, Mary Thurber and Donna Tilden. Rusty Roberts will continue to serve as a Director for
another year.
College to host music festival
Kansas City, Kansas, Community College will host a music festival Monday, Nov. 14 with a
special performance by m-pact, based in Los Angeles. The festival will enable vocal jazz ensembles,
contemporary A cappella groups and other small choral ensembles to work with m-pact. A concert is
planned at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets will cost $15 a person. For more

Ribbon-cutting held for new distribution center
Governor Laura Kelly recently cut the ribbon for Urban Outfitters’ 1.5 million-square-foot
fulfillment center near 118 th Street and State Avenue. The $403 million center will bring 2,000 new
jobs to Kansas City, Kansas.
BPU charity tells of donations
The BPU Employees’ Charity Golf Corporation recently announced the distribution of $49,000
to nonprofit organizations. Those receiving funds were †he Learning Club KCK, KC Healthy Kids,
Grant Elementary School, KCK Lady Spartans and the BPU Employees Foundation. Since 1992, this
event has raised more than $728,000 to benefit the youth of Wyandotte County.
