K-State dean to talk about future of agriculture

Dr. John Floros, the Dean of the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University, Manhattan, will talk about the future of agriculture at a benefit dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the

National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame. Dr. Floros, who also serves as the director of K-State Research and Extension, has been at his current post since August of 2012.? He has led the College of Agriculture as it has developed a strategic plan that will guide the school through 2025. His research specialties include the application of chemical engineering science, applied mathematics and industrial statistics to the field of food process engineering and packaging. The dinner meeting will be a benefit for the Ag Hall.? Business West and the Wyandotte County Farm Bureau will co-sponsor the event. The cost for the meeting and the dinner will be $25 a person.? Business West to co-sponsor Candidates Forum

Business West, in cooperation with Kansas City, Kansas, Community College and neighborhood business associations, will co-sponsor a Candidates Forum from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 in Upper Jewell at the Community College. Newspaper editors and neighborhood business association executives will ask candidates questions. ?Candidates who have been invited include Jerry Moran and Patrick Wiesner, U.S. Senate; Jay Sidie and Kevin Yoder, U.S. Representative, Third District; Kevin Braun and Kathy Wolfe Moore, State Representative, 36th District; and Steve Fitzgerald and Bill Hutton, State Senate, Fifth District.

Plans for development at I-435 and Parallel Parkway approved

The Unified Commission, meeting Thursday, Sept. 29, unanimously approved plans for a hotel, retail development and Frontier Justice gun range and Schlitterbahn property just east of I-435 and south of Parallel Parkway. According to documents provided by the United Government, the property, which was zoned mostly agricultural, has about 73 acres.

Bids sought for National Training and Coaches Development Center

Turner Construction is seeking bids for the construction of the National Training and Coaches Development Center that will be built just east of 98th Street and Parallel Parkway. Greg Kindle, the President of the Wyandotte Economic Development Council, will be the featured speaker when the Shepherds Center of Kansas City, Kansas, meets at 10 a.m.? Friday,
