Annual Meeting planned Oct. 19
Business West will hold its 37th Annual Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Rowe Ridge
Vineyard and Winery, 11255 Leavenworth Rd. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m.
followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Officers and directors will be elected. Those who are
running for the State Representative districts in Western Wyandotte County have been
invited to make presentations. The cost for the meeting and dinner will be $30 a person.

BPU offers energy-saving tips
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities recently provided advice about how to help the
environment and save energy. It came during the first week of October which was
Public Power Week.
The tips include:
* Turn off lights when not in use.
* Replace old incandescent lightbulbs with LED bulbs.
* Set thermostats at 68 degrees in the winter and 78 in the summer.
* Use cold water when washing your hands
* Unplug appliances when not in use.
College to celebrate centennial
Kansas City, Kansas, Community College will celebrate 100 years as an institution in
2023. As part of this celebration, the College is asking people to write about their

Event targets small business
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, will sponsor a
free vendor and resource fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Memorial

Shepherd’s Center to offer speakers
The Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas, will offer two guest speakers as part of
its Adventures in Learning program Friday, Oct. 21 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3333
Wood Ave. Brennan Crawford of Community Housing of Wyandotte County will speak

Author to speak
The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library will sponsor a presentation via ZOOM by
Author Qian Julie Wang at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. She wrote the book Beautiful
Country, an account of growing up as an undocumented person in the United States. To

Casino reports first month’s receipts
The Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas, reported taking in about $762,000
during September, its first month of operation of its sports book betting. The four
Kansas casinos took in about $1.3 million. The state will keep about $130,000 in taxes.
