Business West to hold Annual Meeting

There is still time to make reservations for the Business West Annual Meeting. The event will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Wine Barn and Vineyard, 2850 N. 119th St., Piper. Officers and directors for the coming year will be elected. There will be no charge for the meeting or the dinner, but reservations are strongly encouraged. A wine-tasting is also planned. Unified Commission approves tax increment financing district

The Unified Commission approved a tax increment-financing district for the area at 57th Street and State Avenue Aug. 13. The 4101 Powell Avenue Limited Liability Corporation is developing that area on the northwest and southwest side of State Avenue. The principals in the development are Cliff Dale Sr., Cliff Dale Jr. and his brother, Travis Dale. The taxing district is set up on a pay-as-you-go basis. The developers will be responsible for moving an estimated 250,000 yards of rock and dirt at an estimated cost as much as $5 million. Plans call for possible retail use. The family also owns State Avenue tractor and Equipment and State Tractor Trucking. The family also has purchased the former Sports Page Lounge and is renovating the building: It will become a family restaurant.

College to sponsor Innovation Summit

Kansas City, Kansas, Community College will sponsor the fourth annual Innovation Summit from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Friday. Oct. 2 at the school’s Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave. Entrepreneurs will be invited to pitch ideas to a panel of judges including venture capitalists, investors and community business leaders in two categories—concept and revenue generating. State Avenue Corridor Committee plans Annual Meeting

The State Avenue Corridor Planning and Marketing Committee will hold its annual meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Technical Education Center of the Community College at 6565 State Ave. Four property owners have been invited to participate in a roundtable discussion about development in the corridor. Those invited include Cliff Dale Jr., Dr. Mohammad Ghassemi, Steve Tran and Greg Wilcox.  Greg Kindle, President of the Wyandotte County Economic Development Council, will be the discussion moderator. The cost for the meeting will be $20 per person; refreshments will be served after the meeting.

West Division Police Department asks for assistance

Wyandot Inc plans Annual Meeting

Wyandot Inc, the parent organization that supervises mental health services, will hold its Annual meeting from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Savior Pastoral Center, 12601 Parallel Pkwy. The featured speaker will be John Shuchart, an author, educator and mental health advocate. Awards will be presented.
