Katie Maderak remembered
Katie Maderak always greeted you with a smile.
I was saddened late last week when Katie’s daughter, Joan Maderak Meyers, telephoned to tell me of her mother’s death. Catherine Ann (Katie) Clark Maderak was 93 years old and died after about a two-week illness.
Katie and her lifetime husband Joe were married in 1947. Joe survives at age 99. The couple raised seven children. They were also partners in business. They owned Maderak Construction. Katie was the office administrator and took care of such matters as contracts. One of the company’s largest projects was building the new Command and General Staff building at Ft. Leavenworth, where the company laid more than one million bricks.
Katie and Joe will be remembered as the founders of the Business West organization. The Business West Board of Directors recently honored the couple with a plaque that recognized them with a lifetime membership.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1066 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick’s School.
