Commissioner to speak at Membership Meeting
Unified Comm. Melisa Brune Bynum (First Dist., At-Large) will be the featured speaker
at the Business West Monthly Membership Meeting at noon Wednesday, Aug. 16 in the
Board Room at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy. in the Arrowhead
Center. Her topic will be the recently presented 2024 Unified Government budget.

Exhibit to tell of Westward Expansion
An exhibit of 48 hand-colored engravings and lithographs will be on display from
Friday, Sept. 1 through Friday, Oct. 20 at the West Wyandotte Library. The opening
reception will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7; Dr. Eric Anderson, a Professor of History
at Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence, will be the guest speaker. Chief Judith
Manthe of the Wyandot Nation of Kansas will speak on the history of the Wyandots at 6
p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at West Wyandotte.

Grants from Hollywood Casino told
The Board of Commissioners of the Unified Government recently announced that the
Hollywood Casino has awarded $460,000 to 67 Wyandotte County nonprofit
organizations that provide services for underserved and at-risk populations. The Greater
Kansas City Foundation managed the grant application process.

BPU to help host energy forum
The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities, along with other area utility
companies, will host an all-day regional Energy Forum 2023 starting at 7:30 a.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Harrah’s casino, North Kansas City. The conference will focus on
sustainability initiatives, best practices, available technologies and incentive
opportunities available at the state and federal level.

College trustees to speak
Two members of the Kansas City, Kansas, Community College Board of Trustees, Pat
Brune and Rosalyn Brown, will be the featured speakers at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at
the Adventures in Learnings at Grace Lutheran/Mason Memorial Church, 3333 Wood
Ave. The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Chaplains will present the noon luncheon
program. The Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas is the sponsor of the
Adventures in Learning.
