County Administrator to speak
David Johnson, the recently appointed County Administrator for Wyandotte County and
Kansas City, Kansas, will be the featured speaker at the Membership Meeting of
Business West at noon Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Rowe Ridge Vineyard and Winery,
11255 Leavenworth Rd. Johnston comes from Covington, Ky., where he was city
manager. He was chosen from 32 applicants. He is a graduate of The University of
Norte Dame. He will speak on the Unified Government’s 2024 budget. The cost for the

Benefit breakfast planned
The Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas, will hold a fundraising breakfast from 8
a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at Victory Hills Baptist Church, 2010 N. 66 th Ter.
The cost for the meal which will include biscuits with gravy, eggs, sausage, juice and

BPU receives honor for fiscal responsibility
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities recently was awarded the Certificate of
Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Government Finance Officers
Association of the United States and Canada presented the annual comprehensive
report. BPU has received this recognition 41 years in a row.
