College budget chosen for Membership Meeting topic

Pat Brune, the vice-chairperson of the Kansas City, Kansas, Community College Trustees, will
be the featured speaker at the Business West Membership Meeting at noon Wednesday,
Aug.17 in the Board Room at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy. Pat retired after
serving in the Federal Court in the Western District of Missouri. She is a fourth generation
Western Wyandotte County resident. Her topic will be the College’s budget for the coming year.

BPU receives award for community responsibility

The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities recently received the “Silver Stevie”
recognition from the American Business Awards. BPU was cited for its efforts to help customers
and the community to manage challenges during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. More than
3,700 businesses were nominated in various categories. Other winners included Home Depot,
Fannie Mae and Coldwell Banker.

Battery plant to benefit Wyandotte County

A recent article in the Wyandotte Daily reported that the $4 billion Panasonic battery plant in
DeSoto should help Wyandotte County along with other counties within driving distance. The
plant is expected to employee some 4,000 persons. It also should attract another 4,000 related
jobs. The new plant will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles.
