Business West to host event for prospective members
Business West will hold its summer membership meeting from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at the Wine Barn, 2850 N 119th St., Piper. It will be an opportunity to invite prospective members; it will also be a benefit for the Business West Scholarship Fund at the Community College. BPU elects officers
Mary Gonzales was recently elected as the new president of the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities. She is a retired teacher from the Piper School District where she spent 33 years. She was BPU president from 2005 until 2007. She also served as vice president and secretary of BPU. She also serves on the board of directors of El Centro and City Vision Ministries. Other officers elected were Bob Milan, vice president and Tom Groneman, secretary.
Mayor to speak at Business West meeting June 30
Mayor Mark Holland has a favorite saying: “When big business comes to town, we roll out the red carpet. When small business wants help, we roll out the red tape.”
The Mayor will address issues facing small business, particularly residential builders and developers, at a Business West membership meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 30 at the West Wyandotte Library. Jason Banks of the Mayor’s staff is assisting in making arrangements.The cost of the meeting, which will include lunch, will be $20. Wyandotte County Fair announces dates
The Wyandotte County Fair Association has announced that the annual fair will be Tuesday, July 22 until Saturday, July 26. The 4-H Livestock Sale will be at 7 p.m. Friday, July 25. The fairgrounds are at 13700 Polfer Rd. in Piper.
Dinner, benefit auction planned
The Wyandot Center will sponsor a dinner and benefit silent auction from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at St. Patrick Parish Center, 94th Street and State Avenue. The event will honor Pete and Cindy Zevenbergen and their late son Robert who was killed in an auto accident March 20 on K-10 in Johnson County. Pete is the retiring chief executive officer of Wyandot Inc. The auction will benefit a children’s emergency shelter. BPU offers center to help reduce costs
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities recently opened a new Utility Efficiency Learning Center to help organizations and individuals reduce energy and water costs. This will include a variety of efficiency techniques from simple day-to-day behavioral changes to more detailed information on products, tools and special rebates.
