Still time to make reservations for Annual Meeting

Reservations should be made promptly for the 29th Annual Meeting of Business West. It will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the home of Dr. Tim and Allison DeWitt, 4200 N. 123rd Ter., Piper. There will be no cost for the meeting or the dinner; however, reservations are needed. Officers and directors for the coming year will be elected. Accomplishments of the past year and plans for the coming year will be discussed.

Officers, directors nominated for coming year

The Business West Nominating Committee is proposing the following officers and directors for the coming year. They are Marisa Gray, President; Dr. Jane Winkler Philbrook, President-Elect; Lesley Bishop Johnson, Treasurer; returning directors for two-year terms: Dr. DeeAnn Richards Behrens, Melissa Bynum, Dr. Tim DeWitt, Joe Maderak, Rusty Roberts and Don Scaro; a new director to serve an unexpired one-year term, Chuck Stites; Executive Director, Murrel Bland; and continuing directors who would serve out the second year of a two-year term: Sheryl Becker, Matt Browning and Pat Sedlock.

College to host voter registration activity

Kansas City, Kansas, Community College will host a voter-registration event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 in the Performing Arts Center, 7250 State Ave. Jared Hill is in charge of arrangements and said that those attending will also learn why it is important to vote. Other event sponsors will include the League of United Latin American Citizens Council 11082, the American Association of University Women, the International Student Organization, the Student Organization of Latinos, the League of Women Voters and the Intercultural Center.

Open house planned at Providence

The Providence Medical Group will hold an open house for its cardiology group from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 in Suite 580 in the East Tower at 8919 Parallel Pkwy. A ribbon cutting is planned. Refreshments will be served.

Retail activity picks up

New tenants for the Wyandotte Plaza Shopping Center have been announced recently. They include Marshall’s department store and PetSmart that will take the space that used to house Price Chopper. They plan to open in the spring of 2015. A Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will be a new freestanding building in the center in the location near where the former Evergreen restaurant was. The Coach factory outlet store has extended its lease in the Legends  until January 2015 because of overwhelming customer support.  Two newcomers to the Legends are Eddie Bauer Outlet, a clothing store for men and women and Jose Pepper’s restaurant. A retail AT&T store and a Starbucks coffee shop recently opened in the Plaza at the Speedway.
