Business West to hold Annual Meeting
Business West will hold its 29th Annual Meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the home of Dr. Tim and Allison DeWitt, 4200 N. 123rd Ter., in the Piper Community. There will be no cost for the dinner or the meeting; however, persons are encouraged to make reservations. Officers and directors will be elected for the coming year. Activities from the past year and plans for the coming year will be discussed. All West Wyandotte County business owners and managers will be invited. College opens Innovation Center
Kansas City, Kansas, Community College recently opened its newly renovated Innovation Center to help people start businesses and also assist those wanting to expand businesses. The Center is in Room 3619 Flint Hall. It has multiple uses including a computer lab along with conference and office space. Marvin Hunt, the dean of business and continuing education at the college, said people using the space will benefit from the college’s faculty and staff and community experts. People will also benefit from the college’s affiliation with the Kansas Small Business Development Center. The renovations were funded with a $40,000 grant from the Sunderland Foundation. Unified Commission approves STAR bonds
The Unified Commission unanimously approved the use of $90 million in sales tax revenue bonds to develop the area from 94th Street to I-435 between State Avenue and Parallel Parkway. The cost of the development is estimated to be a $660 million investment. It will include two auto dealerships already in Wyandotte County (Ford and Chrysler) and a national soccer training center. Also included will be a hotel and restaurant sites and an expansion of the Schlitterbahn water park site. A possible office complex that would employ 300 persons may also be developed.

All Business West members are always welcome at monthly meetings of the Business West Board of Directors . The next board meeting will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the home of Dr. Tim and Allison DeWitt, 4200 N. 123rd ter., Piper. The board usually meets at 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Board Room at Sunset Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy. in the Arrowhead Center.
