Mayor Holland to continue Listening Tour
Mayor Mark Holland, after holding his Listening Tour in all eight Commission Districts last year, will continue this effort focusing on an audience of business leaders. Business West and the Fairfax Industrial Association, along with other Wyandotte County business groups, will host two meetings for business owners and managers. Mayor Holland is seeking comments on how to spend the $12 million of revenue that will be available annually once sales tax bonds are paid off for the Village West area. The Fairfax Association will host the first meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at the General Motors Assembly Plant, 3201 Fairfax Tfwy. The cost for this luncheon meeting will be $15. College Innovation Center launches 100 Local Garages effort
Alicia Hooks wants to connect those who have skills and equipment with others who have ideas and inventions. This effort, a project of Kansas City, Kansas, Community College, will assist makers in finding each other as well as students and retirees. To complement this program, the College will participate in the Invent Yes program that encourages entrepreneurs in developing their ideas. Congressman to hold open house
U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Third Dist.) will host an open house from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 in the lobby of City Hall, 701 N. Seventh St. Those attending will be able to discuss the issues facing Congress. This event was originally scheduled earlier, but was rescheduled because of weather. Shepherds Center offers program
The Shepherds Center of Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its monthly Adventures in Learning program starting at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3333 Wood Ave. Activities will include health screenings, a travelogue on buffalo soldiers by Ed Shutt and a talk on legal issues by Ken Moore, the chief counsel for the Unified Government. Ag Hall to offer youth camp
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame will sponsor a nine-week day camp from June 6 until Aug. 5 for those who have completed the first through the sixth grade. Instruction will be based on a 4-H curriculum. Topics will include outdoors and nature, healthy living and science. Campers will also learn about horses, poultry, bees, fishing and gardening.
