Candidate Forum planned July 30 at Community College

Candidates who will be on the Primary Election ballot have been invited to attend a forum from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 in Room 2325 in the Jewell Building at Kansas City, Kansas, Community College, 7250 State Ave. Those who have been invited, their party affiliation and the office they are seeking include Pat Roberts, D.J. Smith, Milton Wolf and Alvin Zahnter, Republicans, U.S. Senate; Chad Taylor and Patrick Wiesner, Democrats, U.S. Senate; Kelly Kultala and Reggie Marselus, Democrats, U.S. Representative, Third District; Sam Brownback and Jennifer Winn, Republicans, Governor; Kris Kobach and Scott Morgan, Republicans, Secretary of State; Beverly Gossage, David Powell, Ken Selzer, Clark Shultz and John Toplikar, Republicans, Insurance Commissioner; and Tim Dupree, Courtney Mikesic and Jim Yoakum, Democrats,  29th District Judge, Position 11. Each candidate will be allowed a three-minute opening statement and a two-minute closing statement. Moderators from various sponsoring organizations will ask candidates questions about relevant issues. Sponsoring organizations will include the Community College, Business West, the KCK Chamber of Commerce, The Central Avenue Betterment Association, the Historic Northeast Mid-town Association and Downtown Shareholders.

Retirement reception planned

Pete Zevenbergen, the retiring chief executive officer of Wyandot Inc., will be honored at a reception from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at the Savior Pastoral Center, 12601 Parallel Pkwy. A program is planned at 5:30 p.m. He has been with the agency for 14 years.

Price Chopper now open in Wyandotte Plaza

The new Price Chopper with 66,000 square feet of floor space opened Wednesday, July 16 in the Wyandotte Plaza Shopping Center. The store has a pharmacy, a Starbucks coffee shop and a Capitol Federal office. PetSmart and Marshall’s will open in the spring of 2015 in the old Price Chopper location. A Krispy Kreme doughnut shop will open in a new free-standing building where the Evergreen restaurant was.

Unified Government, BPU to offer vendor fair

The Unified Government and the Board of Public Utilities will host a free vendor fair from noon until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 in the lobby of City Hall, 701 N. Seventh St. An educational forum will be part of the program. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or telephone 913-573-5446.

Civil engineering firm to move office

BHC Rhodes, a civil engineering and surveying firm, is moving its headquarters from 6363 College Blvd. to 7101 College Blvd. Both locations are in Overland Park. Kevin Honomichi, the firm’s president, said more space was needed to accommodate its expanding staff. The firm also has offices in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, and Austin, Texas.
