Business West to offer seminar on how to sell your business

Every business should have a succession plan. That will be one of the main points that four professionals will stress at a seminar at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St. That is particularly true for those trying to sell their businesses.

The seminar leaders will include Greg Goheen, a lawyer with McAnany, Van Cleave and Phillips; Lesley Johnson, an accountant and owner of Johnson Financial Services; Don Scaro, an insurance agent and owner of Benefits Design Group; and Marc Winkler, a business broker and owner of Midwest Better Business Brokerage.

Each of the presenters will offer advice when considering the sale of a business. There will be time for questions and answers.

Business West to hold Annual Meeting

Business West will hold its Annual Meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Wine Barn and Vineyard, 2850 N. 119th St., in the Piper community. Officers and directors for the coming year will be elected. There will be no cost for the meeting, but reservations are strongly encouraged. Members will be encouraged to bring prospective members. Library to be closed Aug. 17-23

The West Wyandotte Library will be closed from Monday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 23 so it can implement the new radio frequency identification technology. The new technology will improve many aspects of the library’s service according to a library spokesperson including quicker checkouts. Other library branches are also implementing the new technology.  State Avenue Corridor Committee plans annual meeting

The State Avenue Corridor Planning and Marketing Committee will hold its annual meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Technical Education Center of the Community College, 6565 State Ave. Five property owners have been invited to participate in a roundtable discussion about development in the corridor. Those invited include Cliff Dale Jr., Dr. Mohammad Ghassemi, Reggie King, Steve Tran and Greg Wilcox. Greg Kindle, President of the Wyandotte County Economic Development Council, will be moderator. Work to close I-435 lane

The Kansas Department of transportation has announced, that effective Monday, Aug. 17, the northbound I-435 lane to the eastbound Parallel Parkway exit ramp and the eastbound Parallel Parkway right lane under the I-435 bridges will be closed for about 30 days. These closures are needed to allow the project contractor, Clarkson Construction, to build a turn lane that will serve the nearby auto mall located on the southeast corner of the interchange.

All Business West members are invited to attend Business West Board Meetings. The board normally meets at 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday at the Dotte Place Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Pkwy., in the Arrowhead Center. The next meeting will be Aug. 19.
