Meeting to tell of progress along State Avenue Corridor

College Board seeks to fill vacancy
The Board of Trustees of the Kansas City, Kansas, Community College is seeking a successor to fill the vacancy left with the recent death of Mary Ann Flunder. A person wishing to apply should send a letter telling of his or her interest and a resume to Dr. Doris Givens, Kansas City, Kansas, Community College, 7250 State Ave, Kansas City, Kansas 66112 no later than 5 p.m. May 6. The trustees will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 to fill the appointment.
Business West sends letter of support
Business West sent a letter of support Tuesday, April 19 to Anthony Foxx, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, requesting consideration for a TIGER grant that would help improve the roads and bridges along the Turner Diagonal Corridor.? (TIGER stands for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.) Business West supports the Unified Governments application for this grant that would create prime opportunities for economic development. The area along the diagonal is being considered for industrial development.
Consultant to present results of fire study
Mayor Mark Holland has announced that the results of an extensive study of the Unified Governments Fire Department will be made public at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 28 at City Hall.? The Mayor said the study outlines ways that considerable money could be saved by changing the work schedule. The Mayor also said the Unified Commission will consider a request from The Woodlands for a special use permit when it meets at 7 p.m. to act on a planning and zoning agenda.
Listening tour complete
Mayor Mark Holland has completed his listening tour to determine how the $12 million additional money that will be available in the 2017 Unified Governments budget should be spent. The funds will come as a result of the payoff of sales tax revenue bonds from the Village West area. The results of these meetings are seen in attachments.
